This page describes my research with more detail than the institutional page and provides additional information. Here you will find the topics for and
Before going to the research lines perhaps you would want to know about children's experiments. Some of them have been taken from books and others are original, visit Ciencia desde la infancia (in Spanish)

In this topic we have predicted and verified experimentally an enhancement in the dynamic permeability of viscoelastic fluids flowing in porous media. In this topic I have worked with: Mariano López de Haro, Stephen Whitaker, Federico Vázquez , Eugenia Corvera , Guadalupe Huelsz , Rafael and Alfonso Castrejón, Jordi Ortín y Mireia Torralba. In this theme we have formulated a variational principle for the Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics. The concept of irreversibility (in Spanish) is a main issue. We have also applied thermodynamics to describe and to optimize the transport in energy systems. We have studied how to transport concentrated energy using optical fibers. Also we have designed and built solar ovens for tropical regions or solar cookers (in Spanish).
Renewable energy is something that worries me, that is why I have encouraged students from all levels to construct solar ovens, there is an example which you can look: Solar oven at home (in Spanish). Some important links for information about renewable energies and sustainable development below. In this area I have collaborated with: Mariano Lopez de Haro, Federico Vazquez , Sergio Cuevas , Guadalupe Huelsz and Oscar Jaramillo . A list of papers can be seen at: Publication List

The porous silicon is a nano structured and luminiscent material; in
other words it emits light.
Also it is a biocompatible material and can be used to fabricate biosensors
and photonic crystals and many other applications. In this topic we have
worked on the basic knowledge about the nature of the luminiscence and
we know how to prepare multilayers of porous silicon of different
porosities, refractive indices to create one-dimensional photonic crystals, an example of metamaterials (in Spanish). These multilayers can be used to fabricate very high quality
mirrors and filters. We have
designed and fabricated a structure that shows the existence of
photonic Bloch oscillations. An easy article to consult about
nanostructures is:
Nanomundo
en COMO VES (in Spanish). There is a hope of having useful devices from nanoscale (in Spanish) to renewable energies.
In this topic I have worked with: Julia Tagüeña, Eduardo Lugo, Vivechana Agarwal, Chumin Wang,Chumin Wang, Rocio Nava, Yuriy Rubo, Alexey Kavokin, Guillaume Malpuech, Beatriz de la Mora, Gerardo García Naumis, Ma. Concepción Arenas . A list of my papers is: Publication List

These are the most recent topics; but from my point of view they are also the most relevant. Nowadays a great effort to understand traffic flow is being done. Our contributions are related to Nagel's and Schreckenberg's model of traffic flow with cellular automata. We have modified their model to consider anticipation in a very simple form (simulation) and in this way we are able to describe data obtained in real highways. Recently we modelled transient situation in Highway Mexico City-Cuernavaca. This highway presents free flow in standard days; but in the returning day of long weekends or holidays it exhibits congested flow and in rush hours jamming appears. Our results indicate that it is needed a better procedure in the toll to avoid jamming situations. In this area I have worked with: Anita Mehta , María Elena Lárraga, Luis Álvarez de Icaza and Andreas Schadschneider,
About Scientometrics, in this topic we have used statistical physic tools to study scientific impact. We have found a form to define investigation groups by citation mining. The most important result of these studies is that basic science impacts beyond what one would think. In order to performe these studies we have developed some computational tools using free software (in Spanish). In this area I have collaborated with: Ronald Kostoff, Héctor D. Cortés , Esther O. García , Miguel Robles , Jaime Padilla, Jane Russell and Ana María Ramírez.
About the Sociophysics and Econophysics I am only amateur, though there is a great effort in these topics which we must follow very closly and be prepared to perform this kind of studies.
