<title>Master's and Doctor's Degree in Engineering in the Area of Energy</title>

Engineering in the Area of Energy</h2></center> 

<p>The Energy Research Center invites all graduate students from the careers of chemical, industrial, Mechanics, Electrical, Energy, Physics, Architecture Engineering and other careers related, to enroll in the Postgraduate programs of <i><b>Engineering in the Area of Energy.</b></i> Enrollment for doctors degree will be from 1st  to 11th February and for the course prior of master~Rs degree from 1st to 10th March of the present year.</p>

<p><b>Degrees that are granted.</b></p>

<p>These are the following degrees related to the program that the UNAM grants:</p>
<ul>
<li><p>Master in Engineering</p></li>
<li><p>Doctor in Engineering.</p></li>
</ul>

<p>Moreover, the Academic Committee of the program grants a certificate to the graduated masters and doctors, indicating that studies were carried out within the Energy field, the chosen disciplinary field and  the title of the thesis of  degree.</p>

<p><b>DISCIPLINARY FIELDS</b></p>

<p>The student must choose one of  the seven disciplinary fields that the Doctors and Masters degree in engineering in the Area of Energy offer. These are the following disciplinary fields:</p>

<p><i><b>Bioclimatic design</b></i></p>
<p>1. Bioclimatic design of buildings</p>

<p><i><b>Renewable sources</b></i></p>
<p>2. Geothermal<br/>
3. Solar photothermal<br/>
4. Solar photovoltaic.</p>

<p><i><b>Energy systems</b></i></p>
<p>1. Energy economics<br/>
2. Energy and environment<br/>
3. Processes and efficient use of energy.</p>

<h2><b>Master's Degree</b></h2>
</center>

<p><b>Profile of  masters degree graduate student</b></p>

<p>From an academic view and from a professional action, it is expected that the student graduated from the master's degree :</p>

<p>* Participates in the realization of counsel and research projects and technological development within academic ambits related to his disciplinary field. ( introduction to research and development activities)</p>
<p>* Carries out highly professional activities and development and innovation of technology within productive ambits of society related to his disciplinary field ( to be able to carry out  professional activities)</p>
<p>To be able to educate human resources in technical, academic and masters degree level  within his disciplinary field.</p>

<p><b>Curricular structure</b></p>
<p>The masters degree syllabus will last four semesters at least. During this period the student must carry out at least 72 credits and obtain the degree.</p>
<p>The student will ask for his enrolment, and when admitted, he will enroll in a specific disciplinary field. The academic activities of the syllabus and its value in credits will be distributed as indicates chart 1.</p>

<p>When the objective of the student is to teach, he must study and pass an activity of teaching education that is part of the 24 credits of research.</p>

<p>The masters degree obligatory subjects in Engineering in the Area of Energy, according to the disciplinary field are:</p>

<p>The other subjects will be within the ones called "selected subjects"</p>

<p><b>Academic requirements for the enrollment</b></p>

<p>When a candidate wants to enroll and be admitted in the <b>masters</b> degree in the area of engineering, he must meet the following requirements:</p>
<ol>
<p>1. Have covered 100% of the credits of a related bachelor, according to the opinion of the Comité Académico (CA). In special cases, the CA will admit students with less than 100% of the credits.</p>
<p>2. To present and pass an examination of knowledge and others of skills.</p>
<p>3. To have an interview with the Subcomité de Admisión (SA).</p>
<p>4. Demonstrate that you speak English or other language, according to the CA opinion.</p>
<p>5. To commit to be a full-time student of the master~Rs degree.  In cases with special justification, the CA will admit part-time students.</p>
</ol>


<p><b>Requirements to obtain the degree</b></p>

<p>According to the article 18 of the RGEP, it is necessary to cover the credits scheduled in the syllabus and to pass the examination for the degree, in order to obtain the masters degree.</p>
<p>In order to meet the requirements of the credits scheduled in the syllabus , the student must meet any of the two following conditions:</p>
<ol>
<p>1. Have covered the credits corresponding to the academic activities of the masters degree syllabus, either by having taken them entirely in this program or by receiving the CA revalidation and accreditation that corresponds to partial studies of masters degree taken in the program or to related studies of masters or doctors degree.</p>
<p>2. Have obtained the candidature to the degree of doctor in this program and to obtain the CA approval, to obtain the degree of master this way.</p>
<p>To meet the requirements of the examination of the degree, the student must formalize one of the following alternatives:</p>
<p>3. To elaborate a thesis and pass the examination for the degree of master that consists in the oral defense of the thesis, in front of a previous designed jury.</p>
<p>4. To pass the knowledge general examination of the degree of master in front of a previous designed jury.</p>
</ol>

<h2><b>Doctor's Degree</b></h2></center>

<p><b> Profile of  the masters degree graduate student</b></p>

<p>The aim of the doctoral program is to educate researchers of the highest academic level, able to carry out original research by themselves. This will enhance teaching and  research levels and the performance of multi and interdisciplinary studies, as well as the enlargement of high level groups, able to educate human resources for the development of science and technology in the area of energy, in our country.</p>
<p>The graduate students of the masters degree program in engineering of the area of energy:</p>

<p>Will study in depth the scientific and technological basis of their field.</p>
<p> Will study widely the concepts, methods and techniques of their disciplinary field.</p>
<p>Will be able of expose, carry out and evaluate original research projects, specially in their disciplinary field.</p>
<p>Will be able of educate human resources in the areas of teaching and research.</p>

<p><b>Academic Activities</b></p>
<p>According to the article 21 of the RGEP, the activities of the student will be given by his principal tutor, taking into account the rules and dispositions that  the CA establishes. Besides the research project, these activities, that will be evaluated by his respective comité tutoral , can also include: courses, seminars, workshops, teaching activities and other activities that will bring a strong academic education in the disciplinary field that is of interest for the student and prepare him for the candidature to the degree of doctor. According to the article 8 of the RGEP, this activities are not going to have value in credits.</p>
<p>The individual plans of the academic activities of the doctors degree students must comprise, without detriment of other activities assigned by his principal tutor or comité tutoral, the following:</p>
<ol>
<p>1. Research activities.</p>
<p>2. Seminar of doctoral research.</p>
<p>3. Weekly report about the progress of the research project.</p>
<p>4. Examination of candidature for the degree of doctor.</p>
<p>5. Teaching activities.</p>
<p>6. Article based on the research project.</p>
</ol>

<p><b>Academic requirements of the enrollment</b></p>
<p>The CA will decide if the candidate is accepted or not in the doctors degree program. All student will have a maximum of two opportunities to meet the requirements of the doctors degree enrollment. There must be one semester minimum, between these two opportunities.</p>

<p><b>General academic requirements</b></p>
<ol>
<p>1. Have covered 100% of the credits of a related bachelor, according to the opinion of the Comité Académico (CA). In special cases, the CA might admit students with less than 100% of the credits.</p>
<p>2. To present a letter where, a lecturer accredited as doctors degree tutor,  accepts to be your principal tutor.</p>
<p>3. To present and pass an examination of knowledge and others of skills.</p>
<p>4. To have an interview with the Subcomité de Admisión (SA).</p>
<p>5.To enroll in the doctors degree, the student have to be recommended by the Subcomité de Admisión, the Subcomité Académico por Campo de Conocimiento or the judge of the candidature examination for the degree of doctor; in accordance with the modality of enrollment.</p>
<p>6. To demonstrate that you know English or other language, according to the CA opinion.</p>
<p>7. To commit to be a full time student of the masters degree.  In cases with special justification, the CA will admit part-time students.</p>
</ol>

<p>The doctors degree have three modalities of enrolment:</p>
<p><b>i. Direct doctors degree:</b> students graduated from bachelors degree that meet all the general requirements of the enrolment.</p>
<p><b>ii. Switch from masters degree to doctors degree:</b> students that have covered 100% of the masters degree credits and have passed the candidature examination for the degree of doctor.</p>
<p><b>iii. Enrolment with the degree of master:</b> students that have conclude their masters degree program and have met the general academic requirements of the enrolment.</p>

<p><b>Studies duration:</b></p>
<p>For doctor's degree: a maximum of nine semesters for students that come from bachelors degree.</p>
<p>For master's degree: six semesters.</p>
<p>In special cases, the CA can authorize a student to re-apply and give him four semesters more.</p>

<p><b>Requirements to obtain the degree</b></p>
<p>According to the RGEP dispositions, to obtain the degree of doctor, the following is required:</p>
<ol>
<p>1. Have successfully completed the academics activities assigned by the tutor and the tutorial committee.</p>
<p>2. Have met the admission requirements.</p>
<p>3. Have obtained the candidature for the degree of doctor.</p>
<p>4. Have concluded the research work and have obtained authorization by the tutorial committee to write the thesis of degree.</p>
<p>5. Elaborate a doctoral thesis based on the results of the research carried out.</p>
<p>6. Have published or having accepted, at least an international review article with arbitration, where the research work is the principal element.</p>
